Personal Training in Billings: What Happens at Your Fitness Consultation

Plenty of people in this town can back a trailer down a boat ramp in the wind. Yet walking into a training studio makes them stall for a year. Strange, but true. The unknown is the problem, not the workout.

So here's the unknown, removed. This is exactly what happens at a Fitness Consultation at Alloy Personal Training in Billings, step by step.

What is a Fitness Consultation?

It's your first appointment, and it's a conversation before it's anything else. You sit down with a coach and talk through your goals, your schedule, and your history. Then you get an InBody body composition scan, a functional movement assessment, and a short coach-led training session at your level.

You leave with three things. An honest picture of where you're starting. A recommendation for what training should look like for you. And exact pricing for your schedule, stated plainly.

What does the InBody scan tell me?

More than any bathroom scale ever has. In about a minute, the InBody scan measures muscle mass, body fat, and water balance, without needles or calipers. Two people can weigh the same 190 pounds and be in completely different shape. The scan shows which one you are.

We keep that first scan as your baseline. Months later, when the scale barely moves but your InBody shows four pounds of new muscle, you'll understand why we bother.

What's the movement assessment for?

It's how your coach learns what your body will and won't forgive. A few basic movements show us stiff ankles, a shoulder that clicks, a back that's been touchy since that one winter. Nothing is graded. Nobody fails.

By 40, nearly everyone carries some history. The old rotator cuff thing. The knee from high school football. Good programming works around all of it, and our rule is simple: train hard where you can, train smart where you need to.

Will the workout part wipe me out?

No, and be suspicious of any gym where it would. The sample session is deliberately conservative. Its job is to show you what coached training feels like, not to prove how tough the gym is.

A studio that flattens a beginner on day one is running a sales play. Soreness is not evidence of quality. Programming is.

What happens if I decide it's not for me?

Then it's a no, and that's that. The consultation is framed as a conversation, not a commitment, and we mean it. You'll hear your numbers and our honest recommendation, and the decision stays yours.

Since 2022, this studio has grown mostly by people trying one consultation and telling a friend. Pressure would just get in the way of that.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the Fitness Consultation take? About an hour. The training portion is short, and the talking matters as much as the moving.

What do I wear? Clothes you can move in and sneakers. Montana casual is fine. It usually is.

Can I book one with my spouse? Yes. Couples do this all the time, and each of you gets your own scan, assessment, and plan.

I'm well past 60. Is this still for me? Especially you. Our programs are built for adults 40 to 70 and beyond, and members in their 60s and 70s train here every week.
